St George Police warns businesses and the Queensland community of the returning cheap bitumen scams.
The supposed workers are made up of an usual group containing five to six men, no signage on their vehicles and their accents unrecognised by the public.
After being sighted in Mungindi, police become aware the alleged bitumen scammers are coming back into Queensland.
With jobs completed quickly, the crew fail to properly prepare the ground, using low quality materials.
When payments are not made upfront, the scammers may get aggressive when being questioned about the ‘finished’ job. They are known to demand immediate payments without fixing up the job and leaving.
The victim is then placed in the situation where they are possibly responsible for getting the work removed to restart the process.
These scams have come around previously before, ripping off many vulnerable people, sending threatening messages through their phone when payment is refused.
The cops ask members of Queensland to call Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or Policelink: 131 444 if they are approached for work by these men.
