WHAT’S ON: QLD Seniors Month

October is a chance to celebrate seniors across the Maranoa region.

Maranoa Regional Council and other local community groups have lined up a huge range of events for Queensland Seniors Month in October.

From morning teas and BBQs to fitness classes and workshops, there is something for all of the region’s seniors.

The main event will be a regional lunch and entertainment as seniors across the Maranoa are invited to join in Sconetime Roma on Tuesday, 24 October to be entertained by Barry Morgan’s World of Organs music and comedy show. Buses have been organised at key locations across the region to ensure seniors have a chance to attend the event.

Mayor Tyson Golder shared that senior residents are an essential part of our communities and integral to recognising and celebrating their contribution to our towns.

“It is important that we recognise their vital knowledge and those senior residents who offer up their time to volunteer in our communities,” Cr Golder said.

“At least 20 percent of the Maranoa region do some form of voluntary work which seniors are a large part of.

“This is significantly higher than the rest of regional Queensland and above average in the whole of Queensland. Seniors Month events across the Maranoa provide an opportunity to say thank you.”
