New year, new energy and new opportunities

After the excitement and busyness of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, there’s something refreshing about the quiet days of early January.

At Kaloma, this time of year feels like a gentle exhale—a chance to reflect on all we’ve navigated together and look ahead to what the coming year might bring.

For many of our residents, 2025 brought both change and stability.

We saw new faces join our team, celebrated achievements like our ACE Awards, and listened deeply to feedback from residents, families, and staff—turning those ideas into real improvements.

But above all, we saw the continued strength of the people who call Kaloma home and those who come to work every day with care in their hearts.

The start of a new year is often a time of reflection and intention-setting.

We’ve been encouraging our residents to think about what they’d like to do a little differently in 2026.

Maybe that’s trying a new activity, rearranging their room, adjusting a daily routine, or even just updating their care plan to reflect changing preferences.

After all, what we like and need can shift with time—and at Kaloma, we’re committed to honouring those changes, big or small.

We’ve also invited residents to tell us what changes they’d like to see across Kaloma more broadly.

Whether it’s a new social activity, a tweak to mealtime options, or a fresh idea for how we connect with the community—this is their home, and their voice matters.

And speaking of community—we know there are many in Goondiwindi who feel a pull to give back, especially at the start of a new year.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering at Kaloma, there’s never been a better time.

Whether you have an hour a week to spare or simply want to share a skill or a story, your time could make someone’s day.

Our volunteers are as diverse as our residents, and every single one makes a difference.

If you have no spare time, but can spare a few dollars, feel free to donate to our Brigalow wing upgrade (our dedicated dementia wing).

Here’s to 2026—a year of intention, connection, and quiet progress.

From all of us at Kaloma, we wish the Goondiwindi community a year filled with purpose, peace, and the warmth of home.
