Police have declared a crime scene at the Romaville Winery in Roma as they investigate a fire in an unoccupied building overnight.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the business on Northern Road at 6.30pm.
Last night the alarm was raised in regard to a fire that was burning at the Roma Winery.
From the initial call, Emergency services responded, including Police, and Fire Service.
What they were confronted with was a main structure of the facility engulfed in flames, spreading quite quickly.
“No persons in close approximately,” Senior sargeant, Dwane Frank said.
“Fortunately, it’s been a great job by our local fire services, they’ve done a fantastic job,”
There was no structural damage to the Caravan park next door.
“At this stage, investigations continue today, we’ve got fire investigators on scene, police detectors as well as forensic officers who will just do a scene analysis and determine what may have been the cause of the fire,” Sargent Dwane Frank said.
It’s believed the building has been vacant for an extended period.
Police will remain at the scene until fire investigators can arrive and work to determine the cause of the fire.
Police are appealing for any person in the area who may have CCTV footage or may have seen anyone near the building in the hours before the fire to contact them.
Investigations are continuing.
