Lawsons Angus top $25,000 at Roma bull sale

Lawsons Angus have achieved a top price of $25,000, with an average of $8015 at their annual Roma bull sale last week.

With 79 bulls on offer on sale day at the Roma Sale Yards, Lawsons Angus achieved 86 per cent clearance, with only 11 of the 79 bulls offered remaining unsold.

It was the highest Heavy Grain Index offering of bulls in Queensland this year and the line-up did not disappoint. Top-priced bull, Lot 2, Lawsons Enhance, was the all-round package.

“Loads of growth and still a calving ease bull, you really can have it all with a disciplined approach to selection. T1017 is the fourth highest bull in the Sale for 600 Day Growth, top 10 per cent of the breed and top 3 per cent for Heavy Grain Index ($GN),” the assessment said.

Lawson Enhance sported figures of +4.5 for birth weight, +143 for 600 day growth, +78 for carcase weight, +8.5 for eye muscle area, -3 and -2.5 for rib and rump fat depth, +3.5 for intramuscular fat and +2.9 for calving ease.

Lot 7, Lawsons Transcendent, was the second top-priced bull, making $20,000 and his figures were +4.2 for birth weight, +126 for 600 day growth, +71 for carcase weight, +11.9 for eye muscle area, -2.8 and -3.8 for rib and rump fat depth, +4.6 for intramuscular fat and +2.2 for calving ease.

This Roma sale comes on the back of successful bull sales in Albany, WA and Yea, Victoria earlier this year.
